China is pushing for gold to be recognized as a High Quality Liquid Asset (HQLA), which would allow it to replace U.S. Treasuries as collateral in repo markets. This move could create a new demand for nearly 30,000 tons of gold, far exceeding the reserves of the Federal Reserve. The shift marks a transition from fiat-based systems to tangible asset-backed economies.
