Engineered Pathogens, SARS 1.0 Non-Transmissibility
Ralph Baric engineered a pathogen at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that was patented in 2002 as a non-transmissible clone. This engineered version increased toxicity and pathogenicity while intentionally decreasing transmissibility. SARS 1.0 in 2003 served as a precursor to later events, demonstrating that these agents were not products of nature but rather patented weapons.
